Four Steps to Install Your New HVAC

Installing a furnace can be a stressful decision, but we can make easy for you. It may be tempting to DIY the process and save on the services fee but such an installation contains various complicated components that can be dangerous if executed right. To give you an idea of what our process entails, here’s a look at Sun Star Heating & Cooling HVAC system installation services:

Step 1 In-Home Inspection

Prior to scheduling a new unit installation, our technician will first meet with you and perform an in-home walkthrough. We will evaluate factors such as the square footage of your home, the age of the home, the type and amount of insulation, the electrical panel that powers the unit, and the condition of ductwork.

Step 2 Evaluation and decision

Following an initial inspection, we provide an estimate for a few different unit options to choose from. The options presented will be units that are going to work best for your home and living conditions. When evaluating each option, be sure to ask about any warranties that come with the unit.

Step 3 Installation Timeline

Now that you’ve selected your unit replacement, it’s time for installation. The exact amount of time it takes to install a new HVAC unit can vary based on a number of factors, including the size of your house, the accessibility of the space where your HVAC components are stored, the state of the ductwork, and the dimensions of your new HVAC. Generally speaking, the average installation will take anywhere from four to eight hours, which means the process of removing the old unit and being able to turn on the new one should be finished within a day.

Step 4 Quality checkout

The last and the most important step we do one final quality check to ensure that the whole system is working perfectly.

  • Your Air Conditioner is More Than Ten Years Old. This may sound obvious, but if your A/C is getting older, you should start preparing for the purchase of a new unit. Unlike furnaces, air conditioners are often outdoors and exposed to extreme temperatures throughout the year, which shortens their life expectancy. Modern air conditioners can last between 15-20 years, and older air conditioners last around 10-12 years.

  • Your Air Conditioner Frequently Breaks DownIf you’re getting yearly A/C tune-ups from qualified technicians, your air conditioner should not be experiencing breakdowns during the summer. Many common A/C issues are caused by a lack of maintenance, and getting your unit maintained will prevent them. HVAC technicians are also able to preemptively spot and correct any issues your A/C might be experiencing before the summer season begins. With this in mind, it’s a cause for concern if your A/C has multiple breakdowns despite regular maintenance. You might not need an A/C replacement immediately, but you should start preparing for one just in case your unit becomes inoperable.mFrequent breakdowns also mean frequent repairs, and the cost of those repairs can add up. At a certain point, it might be more economical to purchase a new unit rather than sinking money into expensive repairs—especially if your warranty has expired.

  • Your Energy Bills Have SkyrocketedUnless there are any sudden changes in your home’s energy use, your energy bill should stay around the same amount every month, fluctuating a bit for furnace and A/C season. If your energy use habits have stayed the same but your monthly bill has noticeably increased, it might be time for a new air conditioner.

Geographic location – Humidity, average temperature, and overall climate affect the size, type, and economic value of the efficiency you choose. For example, investing in a higher-efficiency model is economical for a GTA resident.

Existing system – Homes with radiant or baseboard heating may not have ductwork. To avoid expensive installation costs, one-room units or ductless mini-splits are the best options. This goes for older homes as well, which likely don’t have ductwork.

No matter what type of AC you purchase, here’s why you should consider an energy efficient model:

Energy savings – Your AC likely accounts for over 50% of your energy bills in the summer. By upgrading to an energy efficient model, you could cut your monthly cooling bills by up to one-third!
Improved home comfort – The same technology that lowers your cooling bills also helps you stay more comfortable. For example, a variable-speed blower motor saves energy by running on low most of the time, which also decreases temperature fluctuations. Scroll compressors that utilize refrigerant more efficiently also cool the room off faster for superior comfort on the hottest days.
Environmentally friendly – Lower energy consumption is good news for your wallet, but it also helps the environment by reducing emissions. Choosing an energy efficient air conditioner is one step you can take to lower your home’s carbon footprint.
